The Concert band currently consists of 50 wind players and percussionist, some of which have just started to learn an instrument. This band is non-auditioned and is held in class as an elective during the school day. Students are expected to participate in Solo and Ensemble at the district level and may perform at the state level if criteria is met. The concert band also attends Music Performance Assessment in the spring for a rating.
The Symphonic Wind Band is an audition based band, held during the school day as an elective, that strives to achieve higher level musical skills with more difficult music. The Symphonic Wind students are expected to participate in Solo & Ensemble at the district or state level, Music Performance Assessment, Honors Bands, and All State auditions.
The Winter Guard (competitive Indoor Color Guard) has been growing in size since the introduction of our coach, Kaylin Wilkins. This group has performed at FFCC championships in Daytona for the past two seasons. Students learn how to dance, perform color guard drill, and master technique on flag, sabre, and riffle. Dance experience is a bonus, but is not required. The Winter Guard season is between November and March.
The Jazz Band is held as an elective class during the day. This group learned about the history of jazz in addition to performance, improvisation, and style. This group does not require an audition, but does require approval from the director. The Jazz Band normally performs at the Jazz Music Performance Assessment during the spring.
Jazz combo is a specialized smaller jazz group relying on soloists to perform music charts. The jazz combo group focuses more on improvistation. This group is selected by the director and is required to meet after school.
The marching band is a competitive entity that performs at football games, extra curricular activities, parades, competitions, and evaluations. The bulk of the season is between August - November. The band has consistently received a Superior rating at the FBA District Marching Performance Assessment and has earned several awards through Florida Marching Band Championships.
The Springstead Percussion Ensemble is under the direction of Michael Mortilla. This ensemble is held during a class period during the school day as an elective. Students learn basics of percussion technique and have the opportunity to join percussion performance ensembles that suit their level of playing ability.
